Argyle United Methodist Church has been part of this town for well over a century — long before Argyle was the fast-growing Denton County community it is today. We've watched Argyle grow from a small railroad stop into one of North Texas's most sought-after places to live, and through all of it, we've tried to be a steady, welcoming presence at the heart of it.

A Storied History
Argyle United Methodist Church was chartered in 1894 with twenty-seven members — just thirteen years after the town of Argyle itself was founded — under the leadership of our first pastor, the Rev. Blueford Henry Webster, a Methodist circuit rider from Mississippi. For seventy-eight years, our church was part of a larger circuit shared with other congregations, and over the decades our members have included many of the leaders who helped build this community, with our building hosting civic meetings and public gatherings alongside Sunday worship. On Palm Sunday, April 5, 2009, we moved from our original home on Denton Street to our current site on Fort Worth Drive — a new building for a new season, carrying the same congregation and the same mission forward. Our original building's site is recognized with a Texas Historical Commission marker, a reminder of just how long faith has had a home in Argyle.
A Community on the Rise
Argyle has changed enormously since 1894 — and especially in the last few years. What was once a population of well under 1,000 has grown into a town of more than 7,000 residents, with growth of over 60% since the 2020 census alone. We sit inside Denton County, now home to more than a million people and one of the fastest-growing counties in the entire country. New neighborhoods, new families, and new faces are arriving in Argyle every month — and we love it. A growing community means more neighbors to know, more kids in our hallways, and more people looking for a church that feels like home.
Growing With Argyle, Into the Future
We don't just want to witness Argyle's growth — we want to grow alongside it. As new families move in and new neighborhoods take shape, our hope is that Argyle UMC keeps being what it's always been: a place where anyone, whether your family has been here for generations or you just unpacked your moving boxes last week, can find community, grow in faith, and help shape whatever Argyle becomes next. Our history gives us roots; our neighbors give us a reason to keep planting new ones.
